Frankie Pangilinan made a commentary on Filipino romantic comedy films on her Twitter account yesterday, April 19.
In the series of tweets, the 19-year-old listed her observations on the topic that resonated with her 92K followers.
“Why Filipino rom-coms always gotta be like… the guy is a 'bad boy' who annoys the girl, they spend half the movie trying to piss each other off then someone gets hurt [probably the girl], and they soften, someone ends up in the hospital at some point [shock! disease], happy.
“It fully sends me that someone always ends up in the hospital, or dead, or having a secret ailment. Why is everyone so unhealthy,” she wrote in a follow-up tweet.

A few of her followers agreed, while one netizen pointed out that her mom, Sharon Cuneta, starred in these types of films back in the '80s and '90s.
The young Pangilinan replied, “Yes, I'm roasting her as usual.”

In recent weeks, Filipino teleseryes have been juxtaposed to Korean dramas due to Filipino filmmakers Joey Reyes, Manny Castaneda, and Erik Matti sharing their commentaries on the TV and Film industry of the two nations.
In a tweet made last April 14, Erik Matti was under fire for calling Korean dramas “faux cinderella stories with Belo-fied actors” and blames it for dooming the local movie and tv industry.
The daily top ten most viewed on #Netflix shows us how our movies and tv are doomed in the future. K-drama galore. Faux cinderella stories with belofied actors whiter than white. And it's all about love in the midst of this pandemic. 🥵😠😫😤

The tweet received ire from netizens, the bulk of which show suggestions trying to disprove his judgment by comparing his works to that of the Korean entertainment business.

Meanwhile, Manny Castaneda commented that the Korean TV and film industry won't be bothered by Erik Matti's statement.
On Facebook, he wrote, “Hindi naman guguho ang TV and film industry ng Korea ng dahil lang sa opinion niya, so why even bother.
"Besides, they have Parasite. We have...none. Kaya 'wag sana maging masyadong mayabang.”
He referenced the 2019 South Korean film Parasite which garnered critical acclaim at the Academy Awards held earlier this year.
In contrast to Matti, director Joey Reyes praised Korean dramas to the point that the former even listed down his reasons as to why it is well-loved on his blog, “Choking on my Adobo.”
